Unsolved Murders
| Crime: Sherry Hiltz Murder |
Date: 2005-04-09 |
Details: The badly beaten body of Sheri Lee Hiltz was found in a back yard in the 800 block of Surrey Ave at 11:00am on Saturday the 9th of April 2005. Kamloops Serious Crime Section is investigating this homicide which is the third Kamloops sex trade worker found murdered since August 1st 2003. There is no evidence suggesting the three homicides are related. Heather Hamill's body was found off Indian Point on August 1st 2003 and Shana Labatte's body was located at Mission Flats Municipal Park on March 23rd 2004. In this particular case, Sheri is described as 44 years of age with medium colored skin, Caucasian, dark hair, average build and wearing a dark bomber style leather jacket, black skirt with a floral pattern and medium soled open towed white sandals. The location where the body was found on Surrey Avenue is in close proximity to Malone's On Eighth, a Pub on 8th Street where there is considerable traffic and noise during the evening and early morning hours. One possible scenario is that she may have been murdered in the near vicinity of where the body was found at 11:00am on Saturday. Police are looking for clues such as pedestrian or vehicular traffic in this area during the previous evening or early morning hours of Saturday April 9th 2005. Also in this area are a great number of apartment buildings, a Seniors residence, and businesses on 8th Street wherein anyone could have witnessed events that would be important to this case. Sheri was last seen at the Miracle Centre on the North Shore around 7:30pm Friday night, then her body was found between 10:30am and 11:00am the following day, Saturday. To be sure, this woman was a mother, a daughter and a sibling and her relatives are deeply sorrowed by this incident. If you saw something or even think you might know who is responsible for this homicide, please call Crime Stoppers as we absolutely guarantee your anonymity.

| Crime: SHANA LEE LABATTE MURDER MARCH 2004 |
Date: 2004-03-23 |
Details: On March 23rd, 2004 at 10:45 a.m. a couple walking in Mission Flats Park area discovered the partially clothed body of 30 yr old Shana Lle Labatte. Shana was murdered and her body left in the Mission Flats area. It is believed she was slain elsewhere and her body dumped by the suspect at the Mission Flats location. Shana was a known sex-trade worker, but she was also the mother of two children and according to friends, she was very well liked. As in the case of many other sex-trade workers, she was addicted to drugs and had turned to the sex-trade to support her expensive habit. Unfortunately, this line of work is extremely dangerous and workers are vulnerable and exposed to a multitude of different personalities, including those with the most dysfunctional psychological disorders. Although RCMP say the crimes are not associated, this has been the second killing of a known street worker since August 1st, 2003. In both cases, RCMP continue to search for clues. In this case, Shana was last seen Tuesday, March 23rd, between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. at the corner of Seymour and Sixth near the 7-11 Store. At this time, she was getting into a brown four-door Ford SUV. She was wearing a yellow bomber style jacket with black stripes on the sleeves and collar, black track pants with two white stripes on the outside leg, a black knit, low-cut halter top, a black handbag with shoulder strap and black Adidas running shoes. She had shoulder length blond hair. Considering she was found at 10:45 a.m. she fell victim to this suspect in the preceding five hours. RCMP need your help in solving this crime. If you have any information, call Crime Stoppers!

| Crime: VIVIAN MORZACH MURDER |
Date: 2000-07-30 |
Details: On Sunday the 30th of July 2000 at approximately 3:00pm, the body of Vivien
MORZUCH, a young 15 year old boy from Montreal, was found in the Savona
area by campers from the Steelhead Provincial Park.
Actually, other campers and passers by, had seen the boy’s body in the ditch
on the previous day, Saturday, but overlooked the situation as perhaps, just
an intoxicated person.
His body was lying face up in a ditch at the entrance to the Park and it
appeared that he had been brutally beaten. On Thursday July 27th, it is believed Morzuch had been picked up in the Winfield area, near Kelowna, as a hitchhiker and he was taken to Kamloops and dropped off at Riverside Park. The following day Friday, he was sighted by several people while panhandling in the 200 block of Victoria Street.
An unconfirmed Tip indicates that Morzuch may have been with a young
female person and they were seen hitchhiking toward Vernon and standing
on the East Trans Canada Highway by the Petro-Canada Service Station.
Vivien was born in 1984 and was a white male, 165 cms., 60 kgms., blonde
curly hair, and blue eyes. He was hitchhiking from Quebec to the Okanagan to pick fruit in the Penticton and Summerland areas. Police suspect his body had been lying in this very steep ditch for at least 24 hours prior to Sunday the 30th, and that he was probably placed
there during the early morning hours of Saturday July 29th. RCMP do have information that a grey colored SUV type vehicle was seen at
the murder site at 2:00am Saturday morning. At this vehicle, were three young men, two Caucasian and one Native male. They were all wearing both light colored T-shirts and shorts and the male
Native had a red baseball cap on backwards. RCMP South East District Serious Crime Unit and Kamloops and District Crime Stoppers have received numerous Tips and information related to this crime. Some Tips have certainly been helpful, but RCMP investigators need more information to solve this brutal crime. You may call the RCMP Major Crime Unit in Kamloops, or if you wish to remain anonymous and receive an award for your information, if an arrest is made, then please
call: Kamloops & District Crime Stoppers at:
